Rotted Beam in Masonry
Example

Doddiscombeleigh Church - the Nave has a barrel vaulted ceiling, made of Oak frames with pine planking. One of the frames had been eaten away by Death Watch Beetle in the most visible place in the centre of the arch. The repair was made using Epoxy-glass flexible rods, which were used to form a frame to follow the original shapes. This form was then filled out with Moulding Mortar, a shrink proof epoxy putty like material that can be formed, shaped and carved to any shape. After carving the finished surface was stained to match the original.

Pre-Treatment - 'Timborising', extensively used in New Zealand and Canada: boric acid is used to soak 'green' timber, before drying and cutting to final size - now returning to the UK as D.O.T powder-in-water system for pressure treatment of 'converted' timbers, replacing conventional Pesticides and CCA (copper/chrome/arsenic).
